Championships & commitment

State Championships: 27 February - 1 March 2027, Labour Day long weekend
Venue: Yokine Reserve, WA
Registration fee: $160, including insurance, shirt, hat, team photos and windup
Uniform: Players supply their own black pants.

More than 80 representative teams from metropolitan and country WA compete across five age groups. Teams typically play five games over the weekend.

Training & pre-State carnivals

Tuesday afternoons between 4 pm and 7:30 pm at Sutherlands Park. Players must attend at least 90% of scheduled training.
Pre-State carnivals run from December to February at venues across the Perth metropolitan area.
Players must be available for at least three pre-State carnivals, including the Thornlie Carnival on 7 February 2027.
Players must be available for the full State Championships weekend, 27 February - 1 March 2027.

Umpires

Thornlie & Districts provides umpires for the State Championships weekend. Teams provide their own umpires for pre-State carnivals, which may involve additional costs for parents.

Selected players are expected to support team goals and commit to training and carnivals. Please do not nominate a player who cannot meet the carnival and championship availability requirements.

Registration: 8:15 am
Skills assessment: 9 am - 11 am
Game-play assessment: 12 pm - 2 pm, after a break
Selection notification: By Friday 30 October 2026

Trial times are estimates and may change with the number of players in each age group.

Wear neutral clothing. Club colours and previous State Championship clothing or hats are not permitted.
Bring water, sunscreen, snacks and lunch. These items stay with the players.
Parents must stay in the designated seating area near the demountable and must not approach the trial area.
A coffee van will be available.

Players are assessed on skills, game knowledge, behaviour and sportsmanship during trials and after selection. Poor conduct may affect a player's place. Decisions about conduct rest with the Executive Committee and State Coordinator.

Parent & player agreement

The player must attend and participate in all ability testing for State Championship selection. Missing testing may jeopardise selection.
Trial scores for any child will not be released to parents.
Results may take up to seven days. Parents must not ask committee members for information about their own or other children during that period.
If selected, the player must attend at least 90% of Tuesday training, at least three pre-State carnivals including the Thornlie Carnival, and be available for the Labour Day long weekend.
Failure to meet these requirements may jeopardise the player's current or future place in a Thornlie & Districts State team.
